Same animal? How much does kerlix go for? I get Vet wrap, green even, for a couple of bucks a roll. Any good tack and feed store has it.

I think it's the same thing, but it's been a while since I had to use it.

Hmm, come to think of it, I'm not sure if the wife bought the vet wrap stuff or the people stuff. Worked really well. I'll see of she remembers.

Otherwise, where's Mike?

Sorry guys, I missed this one...

Kerlix is simply a roll of gauze.

Vet Wrap is a cohesive bandage and is called Coban on the human side of things. Different products, should have both.

I love me some Coban.

arrrr...got it. I thought they were one and the same.

OK, Coban is it. Way handy stuff, and I usually have a dozen rolls or so around. Comes in all sorts of colors too, including a nice foliage green. I pay about $2.50 a roll at the local tack and feed store.

Isn't another name for it Kling-wrap? IAC, it's a must have in a medical kit.

Hmm, there lies a good prep subject. What is in your kit that can be used on people and animals?

Not all work across species, however, being able to dress a wound on a pack animal and prevent infection either way could be a great skill, even if you are not a veterinarian.

I do like Vetrap, a product with many uses.

Vetrap and Coban are both 3M products. Vetrap contains latex, Coban does not, for those that have latex allergies. According to 3M's literature Vetrap comes in a variety of colors including hot pink, geee, I think I will pass, ha.

Another useful product available at tack and feed stores (Tractor Supply, etc.) that I have tried is called "EMT Gel", it is a a quick "bandage in a tube" type product, seems to work well. Note, while it is intended for use on critters, but seems to work well on people. Anyone here tried that?

I think most of what I have in my FAK will work with animals, or at least, my dog. I know that I've given my dog both aspirin and Benadryl (by direction from vet), and the bandages and dressings work. Biggest issue I had was keeping them on, either because of movement (like walking) or because the dog won't leave it alone.

If you had room and could easily carry one, I'd say that one of those cones would be helpful if you had to treat an injured dog.
