 ammo dept at wall marts
After going back through some of the past podcast, I keyed in on greg's comments about stocks at places like wallmart. This showed pretty true in my area and realy hits home in the sporting goods area. I have two stores in town. The new mega store has nothing unless one is looking for shotgun shells.( good price on 12 & 20 ga ) The one to the south has looked like the store shelves right after a mega sale. 270, 7mag, 22-270, 306 just to list what's there and even then only 2-3 boxs with a couple of styles ea. I was surprised to see 2 bx's ea of rem. and win. 223 in stock. Now after keeping a eye on it for about a month this last week found some interesting things. First was that they had ammo in! I picked up 7.62x39 25 rnd bx and 2bx of 50 for the 40s&w. but they also had 1 bx 100rnd of 40 s&w target fmj.???? more than this the mngr of the dept said that this was the biggest order they have recv'd in months and that they are normaly wiped out within a hr of stocking. Second was the sign located behind the counters for clerks that reminded them that they can only sell 4 boxs of behind the counter ammo to one person for each day. Now shotgun shells you can pick up by the case, but a limit on pistol & rife. When I asked about it the mngr. Said that the store was trying to spread the ammo around more. When I inocently asked "why not just stock more??" She smiled knowing the bait for what it was and stated that they only get what the company wherehouse will ship em'
Anybody eles seeing this???

Re: ammo dept at wall marts
While on vacation last week, shopping at a Wal-mart store in north Texas, I was told that many (maybe all) stores will be dropping sales of firearms, as their FFL licenses expired they were not being renewed. The sporting goods department guru, "thought" they would continue sales of ammunition for the near future anyway, gee. I drove to several stores in Fort Worth and sure enough the firearms were gone, go figure, guess we are becoming increasingly "politically correct", got to get rid of those bad guns, ha. The ammunition shelf stock seems to be improving, nothing to brag about just a lot better. The sporting goods people said ammunition sales had flattened out, and they were not having the mad rushes like last year, thus more on the shelves. Your local store may be different.
By the way, it looks like all the stores are closing out their sewing supplies and fabric. I am afraid too many mothers bought their kids Nintendo's and not sewing machines, thus that floor space will now be switched to electronics. The store manager said Wal-mart had decided there was not sufficient interest in sewing to justify the floor space, wow. This may be the best time to pick up some sil-nylon fabric to make your ultra-light-weight tarps and bivy's. It is just another of those alarming trends, people these days increasingly know fewer and fewer basic skills.

Re: ammo dept at wall marts
Hmmm welcome to California Cal stores dropped most of thier firarms several years ago. The only thing behind the counters now are b.b. and paint guns. Will be back at my shop this week and will check on the fabric dept. I agree, it shows that there is a lack of "do it yourself" out there. It kills me to say it, but we have become a desposable people. why buy or make it when you can just get a new one.

Well... Checked out the local store and the lady woking the fabric dept. stated that many of the wal-mart would be closing down there clothing departments. This was due to low sales in certain areas. If they are drawing a good amount of sales, then they wil prob. stay open for now. She said probably housewares will take over otherwise......................... just what we all need

Re: ammo dept at wall marts
I've been getting reports of Wal-marts having more ammo. I've seen an increase around me.
What is everyone seeing in their area?
