 The Shorts
I just wanted to let you know that I love these short podcasts while you guys are hemmering away on the big ones. They keep me motivated and bring forth little tidbits of knowledge fo ponder for the day.
I also like the fact that these shorts seem to be more informal that the larger ones. Like they are an audio blog of sorts. I do have some "constructive criticisms" if you don't mind. (Mainly about the gun show)
I would've liked some more discriptions about the place itself. Yes its just a bunch of buildings and they are big and full of vendors, but what was the lay up like? Were food vendors mixed in the merchant vendors or was there a dedicated food court? Did you buy any cinnamon roasted almonds or did you try the gator jerky instead? Were most of the gun merchants small gun store owners or where there a lot of medium to large merchants there that do "the loop"? What were the big sellers of the show? Handguns, Rifles, or Shotguns? What was the mood of the buyers? You said that there were a lot of non-gunrelated vendors there. Were there any "dollor store" type booths there and if so, did you see anything that might be beneficial for a go-bag or B.O.B.? What about camping gear? Anything good there? How were those vendors doing? What knives were being bought at the show? Were they the nostalgic "Peanut" types or were they selling more K-Bars? Did you buy your son that sword he liked? How many vendors were selling gold? How many were buying it? Were there any good buys on HAM equipment? Did you bring your own supply of toilet paper just in case?
I know that's alot of stuff thrown at you, but it helps us listeners get the feel of the place and a little bit of how people out on the other side of the country (for me at least) are reacting to the situation at hand.

 Re: The Shorts
Those are all good suggestions. Admittedly, I didn't plan to do this until I got to the gun show and didn't think it through. My intention was to walk through the show and describe what I was seeing, etc. Probably would have worked better as a live feed. There were 2 things that prevented this from working like I hoped:
1) I could tell that I was talking in a broken up manner. I was distracted by what I saw, moving around people and keeping an eye on my son. I didn't think that anyone would want to hear me talk like that. I started to summarize things quickly during the few periods of time that I thought I could get away talking without interruption. Clearly, this didn't work out well.
2) Since all of my friends backed out from going at the last minute (losers!), the main reason I went was to spend some time with my son.
With #1 and #2 combined, it didn't work out to be a great time to record. Also, I had forgotten my ear buds (with remote mic) so I had to record by holding the iPhone up to my face.
There's another gun show in Jan., maybe I'll try it again.
